An outstanding performance was witnessed by all present at Liverpool St Helens on Thursday 19^th April. Rainford Year 7 Rugby League team played Sutton High in the challenge for the St Helens Cup. 

Sutton scored the first try in the opening 5 minutes – which came as a sharp reminder that only the best efforts would secure the title. Rainford quickly replied with a try in the far corner of the pitch, coming from the back of a scrum and a quick play of the ball. 

The first half saw a further exchange of trys, until Rainford finally took control in the second half and the gap between the two teams began to widen. Rainford played some majestic Rugby to take the game 28 – 12. 

Excellent performances by all players, although outstanding contributions came from Jake Devine, Matthew Gee and Adam Sheppard (who was later named Man of the Match). Try scorers were Matthew Gee (3), Jake Devine (2) and Jake Banks (1) – conversions by Adam Sheppard and Jake Devine.
