Our School Awards
Our students participate with enthusiasm & commitment

The PE department have recently been awarded the prestigious national 'Sportsmark' that recognises and rewards the high quality delivery of the national PE, School Sport & Club Links Strategy (PESSCL).

In order to be awarded the 'Sportsmark' by Sport England the following criteria needs to be met:

  • 90% of students have 2 hours or more of high quality PE & Sport per week.
  • Hold an annual Sports Day.
  • Exceed national average in: -
    • Total number of students involved in intra and inter school competitions
    • Total number of students involved in one or more school and community sports clubs
    • Number of students involved in leadership and volunteer work.

Mr. Gary Makin, Curriculum Leader for Physical Education, stated that

"Being one of the the first Secondary Schools in the borough to achieve this coveted award is testomony to the hard work of everyone involved with the delivery of the national PE, School Sport & Club Links Strategy, both in school and in the local community - that includes our School Sports Coordinator Daniel Allen and all PE staff, club coaches, volunteers, parents and most of all the students who participate with so much enthusiasm and commitment."

Ruth Halsall, Principal

"This is excellent news that we have achieved the National Sportsmark Award for 2006-7. Many thanks to the PE department and others who have contributed to Rainford High Technology College meeting the criteria."

Pictured below with the Sportsmark Award are members of our PE Department, with Year 10 students Olivia (Level 1 Sports Leader, GCSE PE, Junior Elite Athlete Education Programme and member of school Netball and Athletics teams) and Callum (Level 1 Sports Leader, GCSE PE, Junior Elite Athlete Education Programme, St. Helens RLFC Junior Academy, and member of school Rugby League and Athletics teams)
