World Book Day Celebrations!
Thursday 6th March saw Rainford High carry out its biggest ever celebration of World Book Day. The day was filled with opportunities for pupils and teachers to celebrate books and reading as well as raise money for The National Literacy Trust and Zoe’s Place Hospice, the Year 7 charity.
Pupils and teachers were encouraged to discuss their favourite novels in all lessons and English classes were filled with reading-related games and activities. Mrs. Ratcliffe, the school librarian, ran a competition for the whole school which asked pupils to create an additional character for an existing novel. All students were given a token that they could exchange for one of a selection of books specially published to celebrate the day.
Year 7 students, along with their form tutors, marked the occasion in style this year by coming to school dressed as their favourite characters from novels! Celebrations culminated in an assembly where form tutors spoke about the character they had dressed as and fabulous prizes were awarded for the most original and impressive costumes in each form group. A good time was had by all and over £200 was raised for the chosen charities.
Take a look at some of the teachers in character reading a passage from their chosen book!
