Y9 Geography Enjoy Zoolab Visit

All Year 9 students have recently been studying the topic of 'Rainforests & deserts' in their Geography lessons. As part of their studies, they have looked at where rainforests and deserts are found, what the climate is like in these areas and how plants (flora) and animals (fauna) have adapted to survive in these environments.

It's difficult to take Key Stage 3 students out on trips because of the large numbers of students in each Year Group and we certainly couldn't do a fieldtrip to the Amazon or Sahara! Where we can we bring in events into school or use the local grounds. Over two Fridays (4th & 18th April) we arranged for Zoolab to come in. Each Year 9 class had a presentation where they were shown first hand, several animals that are found in rainforests and deserts. These included a Giant Snail, a Hissing Cockroach, a tarantula, tree frog, a corn snake and a Emperor scorpion.

The students enjoyed the day, learning more about adaptations and even had the chance to hold or stroke some of the creatures if they wanted to!
