Ethos

We believe in high academic and personal achievements which are fostered in a friendly, industrious and co-operative atmosphere. Every student has the right to be secure, happy and successful and we strive to ensure this.

The ethos of the school is demanding but caring. We expect our students to work hard to take advantage of the first class education on offer, to care for themselves and others, to show tolerance and respect, and to display pride in themselves and the school. We aim to equip our leaving students at 16 or 18 to not only meet the demands of our rapidly changing modern world, but also be able and willing to contribute to its future development.

In short, we aim to:

  • ensure the maximum academic development of students of all abilities regardless of background, and to recognise this by public examination results
  • enhance personal, moral, social and religious values
  • develop lively and enquiring minds
  • promote self esteem and self reliance
  • enable students to work independently and in teams
  • encourage amongst students mutual trust, understanding, harmony, along with respect for and recognition of the needs of other
  • foster sporting and cultural development
  • to give our students a love of learning that will remain with them for the rest of their lives

We do this by:

  • offering a curriculum which is broad, balanced and relevant
  • employing highly qualified and committed staff
  • providing good facilities and resources for teaching including high quality modern technology to enhance learning across all areas of the curriculum
  • differentiating between the needs of students and delivering the curriculum to each student in an appropriate way (teaching is in setted groups for most subjects)
