Physical Education

In PE we aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum that caters for all students and educates them physically, morally, socially and cognitively.

All students in Key Stage 3 and 4 have two lessons of PE per week. Students are taught in gender and mixed ability groups.
During Key Stage 3:

At KS4 an options system is utilized and students are able to choose their preferred programme of study. Students are able to choose from the activities studied in KS3 plus other activities such as Health Related Fitness and an increasingly popular Level 1 Sports Leadership course. All students at KS4 are encouraged to gain National Governing Body awards.

GCSE

An increasingly large number of students choose to study GCSE PE. This is a very successful course in which students achieve well. At present we offer two courses. Course content is outlined briefly below:
Edexcel Full Course: 60% Practical (4 assessed activities), 40% Theory
From 2010 we’ll also be offering the BTEC Sport Certificate for those students who prefer the more practical aspects of learning. This course is worth 2 GCSE’s and is assessed via assignment completion – not through external examinations. We may also be offering the new Diploma in Sport & Leisure.

AS/A2

We also run a successful A level course. More info can be found on the College Website

Extra Curricular

We operate a wide ranging extra curricular programme that caters for those students wishing to join school teams and compete in inter-school competitions, as well as those who seek more recreational aspects of PE and sport. We have very successful school teams in Rugby, Netball, Football, Hockey, Basketball, Rounders, Cricket and Athletics and many students gain county, regional and national recognition. We also provide recreational badminton, fitness, dance and gymnastics clubs. All students are encouraged to participate in aspects of out of hours sporting activity.
